Noida School Closure Update: Violent protests by factory workers demanding a wage hike and salary revision disrupted several parts of Noida on Monday (April
13), triggering major traffic jams and law and order concerns. What began in industrial areas quickly escalated into incidents of vandalism and road blockades, affecting movement across key Delhi-Noida routes. The unrest comes a day after the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government announced labour welfare measures, including mandatory double overtime pay and timely wage disbursal in Gautam Buddh Nagar. Amid the disruption, parents and students are concerned about school operations. With Ambedkar Jayanti falling on April 14, it is expected that schools will be shut in parts of NCR. As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding school closures in Noida or Ghaziabad.
Noida Violence Today: Protests Turn Violent in Multiple Sectors
As per PTI report, protests demanding a wage hike turned violent in several parts of Noida, including Phase 2 and Sector 60. Incidents of vehicles being torched, stone pelting, and vandalism were reported as the situation escalated.
A large number of workers from industrial units had gathered to press for long-pending salary revisions. Demonstrations were also reported in Sector 62 and Sector 84, including near a Motherson company unit. Protesters reportedly blocked National Highway 9, further worsening the situation.
Traffic Disruption in Noida: Delhi Border Sees Massive Jam
The protests have severely impacted traffic movement, leaving thousands of commuters stranded during peak morning hours. Long queues of vehicles were seen stretching for kilometres at the Delhi-Noida border.
The Delhi Traffic Police earlier issued an advisory via their X handle, stating that the Noida Link Road from the Chilla Border has been completely blocked. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes such as the DND Flyway or NH-24 via Kondli Bridge to avoid congestion.
Police Action and Current Situation in Noida
Authorities have deployed heavy police forces across affected industrial zones under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate. Senior police and administrative officials are present on the ground to monitor developments.
Police stated that the situation is now under control and efforts are being made to counsel workers and restore peace. “Minimum force is being used wherever necessary to maintain law and order,” officials said, while urging the public not to believe rumours.
Are Schools Closed in Noida and Ghaziabad?
Despite the violence and traffic disruptions, schools in Noida and Ghaziabad remain open as of now, with no official closure notice issued.
Aside from the workers’ protest, schools are also expected to be shut on account of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, 2026. While there is no official announcement of school closures in Noida or Ghaziabad, students and parents are advised to check with the respective schools for confirmation.
Parents are advised to keep monitoring official updates, as delays in transport and commute are likely due to ongoing disruptions.
