Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh recorded 12 Covid-19 infections and four deaths between June 26 and July 16, with all four deceased having suffered from severe
comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes and renal issues, the state's Health Commissioner G Veerapandian said on Thursday, offering the first detailed official account of Covid activity in the state this year. "Sporadic Covid-19 cases were reported in the state. Between June 26 and July 16, 12 people contracted the COVID-19 virus, and four out of them succumbed," Veerapandian said in an official press release, stressing the cases were not clustered in a single location but spread across different mandals.
Kadapa Leads In Cases And Deaths
The state's first Covid-19 infection of 2026 was logged in Kadapa district on June 26. Between July 1 and 16, eleven more infections were reported across the state. Kadapa recorded the highest number of cases at eight, followed by Guntur with two and one each from Visakhapatnam and Kakinada. Of the four deaths, three were from Kadapa and one from Kakinada, with the health commissioner noting that all deceased suffered from severe underlying conditions.Two persons in the state are believed to have contracted the disease through close contact with infected individuals, the Health Department said, while the remaining cases did not indicate a common source of infection or cluster spread.
A total of 67 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Andhra Pradesh between June 26 and July 15, of which eleven returned positive results. The twelfth case in the state's tally was detected at Christian Medical College in Tamil Nadu's Vellore. Of the total active cases, three patients are currently under home isolation and two are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Three patients have already recovered and been discharged, officials said.
National Picture: Kerala Leads With 115 Cases
The Andhra Pradesh update comes amid a wider uptick in Covid cases nationally. From July 1 onwards, 339 cases were reported across India, with Kerala leading the count at 115, followed by Karnataka with 64, Maharashtra with 43, Tamil Nadu with 39, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Delhi with 18 each, and Rajasthan with 12, with a few more cases reported in other states.Health officials across states have urged people with comorbidities and the elderly to remain cautious, wear masks in crowded settings, and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms, even as authorities have sought to avoid creating panic given the sporadic and non-clustered nature of the current cases.
