An amusing story is going viral where French farmers literally threw poop—well, liquid manure—at squatters to force them off their land. According to the Daily
Mail report, the bizarre yet oddly effective protest unfolded in Hautes-Vosges, where a group of farmers, fed up with “not receiving any help from the police” to “get rid of an illegal gypsy camp,” decided to take drastic action. Viral video footage captures the chaotic moment tractors charged onto a field, circling around while spraying a brown, sludgy substance across the area. The land had been taken over by dozens of white caravans and cars—including what looks like a red Ferrari—when the farmers showed up with tanks full of slurry, a pungent mix of manure and water traditionally used for fertilising crops, the report added.
Desperate Travellers can be seen chasing after the tractors as they douse the area. One particularly enraged man even manages to grab onto the side of a tractor, where he "shouts and shakes his fist angrily." However, his protest is short-lived as he soon loses his grip and falls off, while others trail behind, unable to catch up, the report said.
According to local reports, the farmers resorted to this stinky standoff in hopes of making the occupied land so unpleasant that the squatters would have no choice but to leave. And judging by the video, their efforts—though unconventional—may have paid off, the report mentioned.
Slurry warfare might not be in the official playbook, but when all else fails, these farmers proved they’re not afraid to get dirty.
