Mathematics Examination: Essential Guidelines and Final Revision Tips
- A well-structured study timetable is essential for effective exam preparation. Prepare a realistic study schedule and follow it consistently. Daily practice of at least two hours for Mathematics is mandatory. All practice must be done in written form, not orally.
- Prepare formula and concept sheets for all topics. These sheets should include a brief explanation of when and how to apply each formula, theorem, or concept, and should be revised regularly.
- Thoroughly practice the NCERT textbook, including all solved examples and exercises, as it forms the foundation for scoring maximum marks. After completing NCERT, practice a variety of questions from standard reference books to strengthen each concept.
- Give special attention to MCQs and topics carrying higher weightage. Topic-wise weightage is available on the official CBSE website and should be referred to during revision.
- Solve sample question papers and previous board examination papers (all sets) from the last three years to build confidence and improve time management. Students are advised to practice at least eight full-length question papers.
- Avoid excessive studying at the last moment. Keep some time free to allow the mind to relax and prepare itself for optimal performance during the examination.
- The key to success in Mathematics is practice, practice, and practice.
- Pay close attention to paper presentation, as it creates the first impression for the external examiner. Avoid unnecessary cancellations. Ensure that final answers are written in proper statement form, especially for word problems in Trigonometry, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progressions, Linear Equations, and Surface Areas and Volumes.
- Recheck all calculation-based questions carefully. Ensure that correct formulae and appropriate units are mentioned. In proof-based questions, verify that all steps and logical reasons are clearly stated.
- While drawing graphs, ensure that all essential details are clearly shown, including X-axis and Y-axis labels (X–O–X’, Y–O–Y’), scale, and correct plotting of coordinates.

Chapter-Wise Important Tips
- Students should have a thorough understanding of all concepts, formulas, and application-based MCQs. They are encouraged to refer to different reference books for better clarity and practice.
- Chapters such as Real Numbers, Polynomials, Statistics, Probability, Arithmetic Progression, Coordinate Geometry, and Applications of Trigonometry are comparatively easy and high-scoring. Students should be well-prepared with formulas and their applications. For Probability, a clear understanding of the sample space is essential. In Applications of Trigonometry, after drawing the figure, students should clearly describe the entire diagram. A 5-mark question may be asked from Statistics requiring the calculation of Mean, Median, and Mode. To save time, students can find any two using the formula method and calculate the third using the empirical formula.
- For word problems in Linear Equations, Quadratic Equations, and Arithmetic Progression, students should read the questions carefully, understand the given data and what is required to be found, and then solve the problems accordingly.
- For geometrical topics such as Circles and Triangles, students should first understand the question, identify the appropriate concept or theorem, and then proceed with the proof logically.
- In Surface Areas and Volumes and Areas Related to Circles, students must be thorough with all formulas and calculations and ensure that the final answer is written with correct units.
- Application-based questions can be asked from any topic. Therefore, students should carefully analyze the entire question before starting the solution. Keeping this in mind, an additional 10 minutes is provided in the time management chart to handle such questions effectively.
