Lucknow: In a dramatic and unexpected development in Uttar Pradesh’s political circles, Prateek Yadav, brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and son
of late SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, has announced that he is divorcing his wife, who recently became a BJP leader, Aparna Yadav. The announcement was made through a strongly-worded Instagram post, which quickly went viral and triggered intense discussion on social media.
‘I Am Going to Divorce This Selfish Woman As Soon As Possible’
In his Instagram message, Prateek levelled serious personal allegations against Aparna, blaming her for damaging family relationships and accusing her of being focused on fame and influence.“I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential. Right now, i am very bad mental health condition and she doesn't bother. Because it's only herself she bothers about. I have never seen such a bad soul, and i was unfortunate to get married to her,” Prateek's Instagram post read.
A High-profile Relationship and Wedding
Prateek and Aparna’s relationship dates back years. The couple reportedly met in their younger days and remained together for a long period before formalising their relationship.They got engaged in 2011 and later married in 2012, in what was seen as one of the most high-profile weddings in Uttar Pradesh. Several well-known personalities were reportedly present, including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Anil Ambani.
Media reports also suggest the two first came close in 2001, and were in a relationship for nearly a decade before getting married.
Who is Aparna Yadav
Aparna Yadav is the younger daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav and had earlier been active in the Samajwadi Party.
She contested the Lucknow Cantt Assembly seat in 2017 on an SP ticket, but lost to BJP leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi. Ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Aparna quit the SP and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
After a long wait, she was appointed Vice Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission in September 2024.
