Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI to become the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence startup moving ahead of Sam Altman's company, which was last
valued at $852 billion earlier this year. An AI company that develops the Claude family of LLMs, Anthropic, has raised $65 billion Series H financing led by investors including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. This include previously committed investments, including a reported $5 billion from Amazon. Anthropic is also reported to go public by end of this year with an estimated valuation of $900 billion. Anthropic is on track to generate $10.9 billion in revenue during the second quarter, as reported by CNBC. If it hits the target, the AI company will post its first profitable quarter. During the first quarter, Anthropic generated $4.8 billion. CFO Krishan Rai said the latest investment would help the company meet growing customer demand and continue expanding Claude across workplaces and enterprise environments. CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, recently said the company witnessed nearly 80x year-over-year growth in revenue and usage during the first quarter of 2026. In another development, Anthropic also announced new AI models including Claude Opus 4.8 and Claude Mythos Preview. The latter is focused on cybersecurity use cases. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei and a group of executives and researchers who defected from OpenAI. OpenAI is also reportedly working with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to prepare to file in the coming days or weeks. The AI giant is preparing to confidentially file a draft of its IPO prospectus. OpenAI is valued at more than $850 billion by private investors. The AI company has raised approximately $180 billion in aggregate to date, with Microsoft and SoftBank among the key investors.
