Right after the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) paper leak and subsequent cancellation, both the Federation of Indian Medical
Association (FAIMA) and United Doctors’ Front (UDF) approached the Supreme Court, demanding the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and its replacement with a robust organisation, or its fundamental restructuring. The apex court will today hear the pleas filed by the associations alleging ‘systematic failure’ on the part of the NTA, urging immediate reforms. The NEET UG 2026 examination, held on May 3, 2026, was cancelled on May 12, 2026, following a paper leak. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently assumed full accountability for the alleged paper leak. “I take responsibility for the mental anguish faced by 22 lakh students. The NEET was compromised," he said at the 6th edition of Jagran Bharat Education Conclave 2026. FAIMA’s Appeal
1. Direct appointment of a High-Powered Monitoring Committee chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge, a cybersecurity expert, and a forensic scientist, to supervise the re-conduct of NEET UG 2026 until the NEIC is formally constituted to oversee the re-examination and ensure no further leaks occur.
2. Direct re-conduct of the NEET UG 2026 examination under strict scrutiny of a judicially appointed high-powered committee until the proposed NEIC or an interim oversight committee constituted by this Court has verified and certified the security of the revised examination process.
3. Direct mandating the “Digital Locking” of question papers and a transition to a “Computer-Based Test” (CBT) model, as suggested in the aftermath of previous leaks, to eliminate the physical chain-of-custody risks.
4. Direct the CBI to file a status report before this Court within four weeks regarding the investigation into the NEET UG 2026 paper leak, including the network identified, arrests made, persons charged, and progress of prosecution.
5. Direct Respondent No. 2 to forthwith publish centre-wise results (as and when available) of NEET UG 2026, to allow transparent detection of anomalies.
UDF’s Appeal
1. Direct Parliament to establish a statutory national testing body with defined legal powers, transparency mechanisms, and direct accountability to the legislature.
2. Appoint a court-monitored committee to oversee the transition of upcoming national examinations and ensure “zero-leak” integrity in the conduct of exams.
