Just hours before the Cockroach Janta Party is set to protest in Mumbai against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Abhijeet Dipke was detained
briefly by Mumbai police after being spotted with placards near iconic Marine Drive. Dipke's detention comes ahead of the CJP's protest in Mumbai on October 2, seeking the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar amid the ongoing row over the SIR exercise to revise electoral rolls. The Cockroach Party announced the protest following an investigative report that alleged differences within the Election Commission. Notably, the CJP has put forward three demands ahead of their protest at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, which include Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and initiation of criminal proceedings against him, a pause on the SIR, restoration of the January 2025 voter list, repealing of the 2023 law and reform the Election Commission.
CJP Firm On Shivaji Park Venue
Earlier in the day, Dipke, while addressing a press conference, clarified that the outfit will continue with its planned venue -- Shivaji Park in Mumbai -- for its October 2 protest against the Election Commission, in which they are going to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar."We will hold our protest at Shivaji Park itself. It is our right, and we do not want to hold the protest at Azad Maidan," Dipke said.
He also rejected the claims that the local residents are protesting against the CJP's planned protest on October 2 at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. "No local residents are opposing our protest. If Shivaji Park is a silent zone, then how does the Chief Minister hold rallies there?"
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has denied permission to the CJP to hold its protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. However, the CJP has said it will proceed with the demonstration despite the lack of permission.
