Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, seeking an increase in the number
of posts under the state's Class-2 and Class-3 teacher recruitment drives. In his letter dated September 29, Gandhi said aspiring teachers had raised the issue during the "Chhatron ki Goonj" event held in Indore last month. The aspirants demanded that the government increase the number of vacancies in the ongoing recruitment process, reports PTI. Gandhi said Madhya Pradesh already has more than one lakh vacant teaching positions in government schools, which he claimed was directly affecting the education of children. Rahul Gandhi Flags Teacher Vacancies, Protests According to Gandhi, the 2025 recruitment drive has announced 13,089 posts for Class-3 teachers and 10,800 posts for Class-2 teachers. He said aspirants were seeking an increase in these numbers, arguing that more appointments would strengthen the teaching workforce while providing permanent employment opportunities to thousands of young people. The Congress leader also highlighted the situation of candidates who have performed well in recruitment examinations and those already working as guest faculty. He said limited vacancies were preventing several such candidates from securing permanent employment, while some were approaching the upper age limit for recruitment. Gandhi further criticised the Madhya Pradesh government's handling of protests by aspiring teachers. He said it was "disheartening" that candidates had been forced to resort to protests and hunger strikes to raise their concerns. He alleged that instead of addressing their demands, the government was attempting to intimidate protesting aspirants by issuing notices. Gandhi urged Yadav to immediately withdraw the notices issued to the protesting candidates and meet their representatives to hear their grievances. He also called on the Madhya Pradesh government to increase the number of Class-2 and Class-3 teacher recruitment posts and initiate the second phase of counselling without delay.
