Mumbai and neighbouring districts are set for another rainy day on Tuesday (June 23), with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a warning
for thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated places across Mumbai and Thane. Gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely through the day, while Palghar may witness stronger winds of up to 50 kmph along with moderate rainfall.
Rain Activity Expected To Intensify
According to the IMD, weather conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over Maharashtra, including Mumbai. The city has been waiting for the monsoon's full arrival after its progress stalled due to unfavourable atmospheric conditions earlier this month.Private weather agency AccuWeather has forecast cloudy skies with frequent showers throughout the day. Rainfall is expected to become more persistent by evening, with heavy showers likely during the night. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may settle near 26 degrees Celsius. The chance of precipitation has been pegged at 97 percent.
High Humidity To Keep Conditions Uncomfortable
Skymet Weather has also predicted rainfall of varying intensity across Mumbai. Humidity levels are expected to remain extremely high between 90 and 98 percent, creating damp and uncomfortable conditions despite the drop in temperatures.Meteorologists said rainfall could be significant during the morning and late-night hours, with moderate winds continuing across the region.
Monsoon Relief Around The Corner
Local weather observer Rushikesh Agre said Mumbai's weather pattern is finally showing signs of a sustained monsoon setup. He noted that rainfall activity is expected to strengthen further from Tuesday, potentially marking the beginning of a more active monsoon phase for the city.Residents have been advised to carry umbrellas, expect slow-moving traffic during peak hours and remain alert for waterlogging in low-lying areas if heavy showers intensify later in the day.
