Mumbai News: To facilitate maximum commuters visiting Ganesh pandals in the city, Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 have extended their service time till midnight.
The temporary timings will start from August 27 to September 6. According to the officials, commuters will be able to take the last trains from Andheri West (Line 2A) and Gundavali (Line 7) at 12:00 a.m., which currently depart at 11:00 p.m. According to the officials, the Mumbai Metro is adding more train services to provide smooth connectivity and make the metro a faster commute. Every year, lakhs of people visit pandals (Ganpati setups), and the Metro expects even more passengers during the 11-day festival, reported TOI. Currently, Metro Lines 2A and 7 carry over 3.3 lakh people daily. This number will likely go up during the celebrations. - On weekdays, 317 trains will run — that’s 12 more trips than usual. Trains will come every 5 minutes 50 seconds during busy hours, and every 9 minutes 30 seconds during quieter times.
- On Saturdays, there will be 256 trips, and on Sundays, 229 trips — again, 12 more than normal.
- On Sundays, trains will run every 10 minutes, and more trains will be added if needed.
- Metro timings will also be extended until midnight to help people return home safely after celebrations.
The Metro Commissioner, Sanjay Mukherjee, said the Metro is a reliable option, especially when roads are crowded.
