What is the story about?
As the LPG crisis takes a hit on Delhi's eateries and restaurants, the 75-year-old chole bhature icon, Sita Ram Diwan Chand, has announced closure on Saturday
(March 14). The Paharganj-based outlet of Sita Ram Diwan Chand, in a statement, announced closure due to LPG shortage. On Saturday, they had shut down several of their outlets in the national capital, while only the Laxmi Nagar outlet was open. However, they said that it is unclear how long it will remain open. “Due to the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, our outlet is currently closed”, the statement read. This is the second time the eatery has decided to shut its operations. Earlier, they closed their restaurants for a month and a quarter during the COVID-19 period.
Delhi Govt Issues LPG Priority List
Amid the ongoing LPG crisis in India, the Delhi government has come up with a priority-based policy for distributing commercial LPG cylinders in the national capital.
The policy notice, issued on March 14 by the Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs, stated that up to 20 per cent of the average daily consumption of commercial LPG cylinders in Delhi — around 1,800 cylinders — will now be supplied through a regulated system managed by the three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).
Priority 1: Educational institutions, hospitals, railways and airports
Priority 2: Government and PSU institutions, departments and canteens
Priority 3: Restaurants and eateries
Priority 4: Hotels, hospitality units, guest houses and trusts
Priority 5: Dairies, bakeries and sweet shops
Priority 6: Caterers and banquet halls
Priority 7: Dry cleaning, packaging and pharmaceutical units
Priority 8: Sports facilities, stadiums
Authorities said the distribution will be based strictly on booking requests made by consumers, and pending orders will be fulfilled on a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) basis.
