Mumbai: In a major relief to thousands of commuters in Mumbai, the Dahisar Mumbai is about to get its Metro Line 9, which will run from Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayandar,
set to open for public use in February 2026. The announcement was made by Maharashtra's Minister of Transport Pratap Sarnaik on Monday, with the completion of construction coming to an end soon. He stated that the opening would happen after the upcoming local elections on February 5, which will allow commuters in the area to use the line after the elections are completed, PTI reported. One of the main goals of the project is to considerably decrease the time it takes for people to travel to and from Mumbai and the Thane district, as it will provide a more convenient commute and completely eliminate the congested traffic on the Western Express Highway that was a major problem for commuters.
The Game Changer for Mira Road and Bhayandar Residents
The Dahisar-Mira Bhayandar metro line will connect to the existing Metro Line 7 (Red Line) between Gundavli and Dahisar East, and residents of Mira-Bhayandar have been asking for this connection for more than a decade. Minister Sarnaik mentioned, that he had communicated with the Chief Minister to make sure all remaining work, including safety checks, is done so that the metro line would be ready to launch in February.

Route Details and Key Stations
As per the reports, the future corridor will be approximately 13.5 km long and mostly elevated. The corridor will connect Dahisar East to multiple connecting points within Mira-Bhayandar funding area as all are stations along the corridor. They are, Dahisar East Interchange with Line 7 & 2A, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meditiya Nagar, and Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium.
Impact on Traffic and Connectivity
The implementation of Line 9 will greatly ease the congestion caused by the local suburban railway system as well as Dahisar Check Naka, which has been an ongoing major issue for many years. By using Line 9, passengers travelling between Mira Road and Bhayandar will now be able to directly access Andheri (East) and have the option of interchanging onto the South Mumbai train service.
In addition to the update regarding the Metro project, Minister Sarnaik said that all major roads under the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) will be made concrete in the next 18 to 24 months. This will help reduce potholes and make travel in the city smoother.
