Light rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Gurugram, late on Tuesday night after the weather department issued a yellow alert for
rain and thunderstorms in the region. Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department had warned of rain and gusty winds across the national capital and adjoining areas. “The Imd has said that in next 2 hours Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorm and lightning (30-50 Km/h gusty winds) is very likely to occur at many places of Delhi & NCR during the next 2 hours, said regional weather department” The national capital witnessed a windy day on Tuesday, while the maximum temperature settled at 39 degrees Celsius. The weather office has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain for Wednesday as well. According to IMD data, Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, which was 0.5 degrees below normal. No rainfall was recorded there till 5:30 pm. Palam recorded 0.1 mm rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, while most other weather stations reported either trace rainfall or none at all, the department said. Among other stations, Lodhi Road recorded a maximum temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below normal. Ridge recorded 37.8 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees below normal, while Ayanagar recorded 38.4 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees below normal. Palam recorded 37.9 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees below normal. Minimum temperatures remained above normal at several stations. Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal, followed by Ayanagar at 26.7 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees above normal, and Lodhi Road at 26.4 degrees Celsius, 2.4 degrees above normal. Palam and Ridge recorded minimum temperatures of 25.5 degrees Celsius and 25.6 degrees Celsius respectively, which were 0.8 degrees and 0.5 degrees below normal. The IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky for Wednesday along with thunderstorms and rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 39 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. (With Inputs from PTI)
