The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the implementation of facial recognition technology in entrance examinations, beginning with Joint Entrance
Examination (JEE Mains 2026). This has been announced with an aim to strengthen security at exam centres. A senior official from the Education Ministry said that the testing agency will also introduce facial biometric checks and live photography across entrance exams. “They will be implementing a facial recognition system during the examination and live photography during the filing of the application. This will be implemented from January, from JEE (Mains)," a source at the Education Ministry said during a media interaction. One must know that facial recognition is seen as a major upgrade in the way candidate identity is verified. The technology checks a person’s identity by analysing unique facial features and matching them with stored records. This allows real-time verification and reduces the chances of fraud during exams. To introduce this change, NTA had issued a public notice in September asking JEE Main aspirants to ensure that their Aadhaar details are updated. Students were told to cross-check their name, date of birth, photograph, address, and father’s name. In line with this, NTA in October stated that it would obtain candidate details such as name, date of birth, photograph, and address from UIDAI through Aadhaar authentication. NTA will conduct JEE Mains 2026 in January. The exam city slip is expected in the first week, and the admit card will be released three days ahead of exam date. Candidates should know that it will be mandatory to carry a printout of hall ticket, along with valid ID proof to exam hall. In case they fail to do so, they will not be allowed to appear in exam. If you are a student who will attempt board exams in 2026, here's how you can balance.
