One of the concerning highlights is that even after starting with a record-breaking enrollment of over 3.02 lakh students, over 45 thousand engineering seats are expected to remain vacant. A total of 62,289 students were allotted seats in the second round. It also included the government school students who availed the 7.5 per cent horizontal reservation. In the third round, 64,629 students were given tentative allocations after supplementary counselling. Upon considering these figures, we have figured out that a total of around 1.55 lakh students have received seat allotments across all three rounds this year. Officials noted that the number of sanctioned seats had been increased this year. “The Higher Education Department approved more seats for Anna University and its affiliated colleges under the single-window system -- over 2.02 lakh seats compared to last year’s 1.80 lakh,” a senior DoTE source told IANS. One should know that the final admission figures will be announced only after the completion of supplementary counselling round This round is specifically conducted for students who cleared the Class 12 supplementary exams conducted between June and August 26. The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions continues to be the main pathway for engineering aspirants in the state to secure admission into government, government-aided, and self-financing colleges affiliated with Anna University. Education experts have urged the state to reassess the approval of engineering seats to match real demand and also to take steps to make engineering courses more attractive to students.
