The Odisha government has announced a new financial assistance for the postgraduate (PG) and Ph.D students of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology
(OUAT). The initiative is aimed towards strengthening agricultural education and promoting research among the students across the state. Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, made the announcement through his official X post, as he said “Under the leadership of Hon’ble CM Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, I am proud to announce a landmark decision of the Government of Odisha — monthly stipends for OUAT PG and Ph.D.”
Under the new scheme, the OUAT PG students, who are pursuing agriculture and allied courses will be receiving a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 for two years. At the same time, the Ph.D students will be provided with Rs 15,000 per month for up to three 3 years to support them financially throughout their research programmes.
Financial support for future agricultural researchers
The minister highlighted that the scheme has been introduced to reduce the financial burden on the students, enabling them to focus on research and academic excellence and encourage more students to pursue higher education and research in agriculture as this sector continues to remain central to Odisha’s economy.
He described the stipend scheme as an important step towards empowering the next generation of agricultural scientists and researchers. He also mentioned in the post that the government aims to foster quality research, innovation in farming practices and create long-term benefits for the agricultural sector.
Singh Deo further said that investing in the students at present will help in building a stronger agricultural transformation in the coming days. The initiative is expected to contribute to the building of “Samruddha Odisha” while aligning with the vision of “Viksit Bharat” through advancement in agricultural education, research and innovation.
