Delhi Weather: Delhi is set to record its warmest March in four years, with an average monthly maximum temperature of 32.5 degrees Celsius this month.
However, a series of western disturbances brought relief in the scorching heat, as parts of the national capital witnessed rain and thunderstorms in the last few days. The last time the maximum temperature in March reached this high was in 2022, when the average maximum temperature was 33.4 degrees Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department, as of March 30, the average monthly maximum is 2.6 degrees Celsius above the long-period average (LPA) of 29.9 degrees Celsius. "We have seen western disturbances, back-to-back, in the second half, with rainfall, even though patchy, on multiple days. The first half was fairly dry, with clear skies and the temperatures rising day by day. It was only on March 15 that it dipped first, due to rains," Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet, told TOI.
What To Expect From April?
The vice president of Skymet said that during the first 10 days of April, it will be less warm due to the impact of another western disturbance, adding that there won't be any heatwave for at least 10 days of April.
He added that the thermal distress will see relief on some days due to on-and-off rain.
Delhi Records Hottest Morning of Year on March 27
Delhi on Friday (March 27) recorded the hottest morning of the year, with minimum temperatures dropping to 20.6 degrees Celsius, while maximum was recorded at 32.6 degrees Celsius, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The last time a higher minimum temperature was recorded was on March 13, when it stood at 20.4 degrees Celsius, PTI news agency reported.
According to IMD officials, the ongoing spell of unusual weather in March is linked to a series of western disturbances affecting northwest India. These systems have been influencing the region since March 15 and are approaching at a lower altitude than usual, thereby impacting weather patterns over Delhi.
