Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal government will witness its first cabinet expansion on Monday when 35 ministers will be sworn in. The oath
will be administered by Governor RN Ravi at 11 AM at the Lok Bhavan. Taking to social media, CM Adhikari said, "Tomorrow, a full-fledged Council of Ministers of the nationalist government elected by the people of West Bengal will be constituted." "As part of the cabinet expansion, 35 ministers of the Government of West Bengal will take oath at Lok Bhavan at 11 AM. Governor RN Ravi will administer the oath of office to them at Lok Bhavan," he added. Adhikari took oath as the chief minister on May 9 after the BJP swept the assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of the TMC. Along with Adhikari, four ministers took the oath that day. They were Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania, and Kshudiram Tudu. Earlier on May 18, the West Bengal Cabinet had approved the constitution of two commissions to address institutional corruption and atrocities against women, announced state Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Both commissions are set to be headed by retired judges of the Calcutta High Court and will officially begin their proceedings from June 1.
Speaking on the Cabinet's decision, the Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, said, "The Cabinet has approved the constitution of a Commission against Institutional Corruption, which will be headed by retired Kolkata High Court judge, Justice Biswajeet Basu. The Cabinet also approved a Commission for atrocities against women. This will be chaired by retired Justice Samapti Chatterjee."
The Chief Minister emphasised that the state government is committed to transparency and the protection of citizens' rights.
"Both the commissions will begin work from June 1," he said.
BJP stormed to power in West Bengal with a landslide victory, winning 208 seats out of total 294 (election was held in 293) seats, while restricting Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress to just 80 seats.
