Apart from French President Emmanuel Macron’s World Economic Forum (WEF) speech that included issues including multilateralism, rising global instability,
and France’s participation in military exercises in Greenland alongside Denmark amid tensions with the United States, what was quick to gain massive attention and even compliments was his aviator-style sunglasses. For context, Macron was seen wearing his aviator indoors in Davos, Switzerland, while addressing several world leaders on Tuesday, January 20. Naturally, the internet had all kinds of reactions; however, the reaction that stood out the most was that of his counterpart, US President Donald Trump, who is addressing the World Economic Forum today- Wednesday, January 21. Here’s how Donald Trump reacted to Macron’s sunglasses: Seemingly, Macron’s sunglasses hardly made sense to Trump, as he was heard mocking him. He called the sunglasses “beautiful”, but went ahead and asked what even was in the very next sentence. “I watched him yesterday with those beautiful sunglasses. What the hell happened?” Trump was heard saying. A video of the same was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘RapidReport2025’. The post was shared today and pulled many views from people. Apart from Macron’s sunglasses, Trump addressed a plethora of “issues” he has, where the topic of Greenland stood at the top.
Why was Macron wearing the ‘Top Gun’ look in Davos?
Coming back to Macron and his “styling” that created buzz on Tuesday, it turned out that the shades had less to do with ‘style’ and more to do with his ‘health and well-being’. Just a few days ago, he was seen wearing the shades during an outdoor troop inspection– with a visibly ‘bloodshot, puffy eye’. He later even addressed about the same at the New Year’s address to France’s armed forces, where he also clarified that the condition was “completely harmless.”

“Please pardon the unsightly appearance of my eye. It is, of course, something completely harmless,” Macron said, according to The Associated Press.
According to AP, the ‘sunglasses look’ that Macron went with during the earlier outdoor inspection- when he had also acknowledged the eye issue- suggested that the Davos appearance had followed the same precaution.
