About Mumbai Metro Aqua Line
Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, is the city’s first fully underground metro corridor, aimed at improving daily commutes between the western suburbs and South Mumbai. Covering a total length of 33.5 km with 27 stations, it is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 37,000 crore. Once fully operational by August 2025, the Aqua Line is expected to carry 17 lakh passengers daily, significantly reducing traffic congestion and travel time.
The Aqua Line (Metro Line-3) with 27 stations connects Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai to Aarey JVLR in suburban Goregaon. It serves key hubs like BKC, a business district, and the city airport.
As per MMRC, the 33.5-km-long metro corridor has crossed a milestone of ferrying four crore passengers since becoming fully operational. The first phase of the corridor was inaugurated in October 2024, and the final section a year later.
The opening of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro-3 has reduced 650,000 car trips on a daily basis. Phase 2 recorded over 32,000 passengers per day within just two days of launch. The full line is now serving up to 13 lakh passengers, making it smoother and easier to commute such long distances.
