As thousands of protestors fill the streets in central Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Monday announced the temporary closure of five
metro stations located in the area due to security reasons. According to the DMRC, Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth metro stations have been closed until further instructions.
However, DMRC, in a post later, clarified that "The interchange facilities and gates are now open at Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat metro stations."
The CJP, too, in a post on X, said the gates of Rajiv Chowk and Janpath metro stations have been closed. The outfit said the gate for Patel Chowk metro station has also been closed, urging protestors to plan travel accordingly for the ‘Chalo Sandad’ march.
Protesters March From Metro Stations To Protest Site
More than 1,000 students who had gathered at Central Secretariat Metro Station have started moving towards the protest site, while another around 500 student protesters are marching from the Rail Bhawan side, according to CJP.Speaking to Times Now, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said an official announcement on the proposed 'Chalo Sansad' march would be made shortly, adding that thousands more protesters are yet to join. Responding to Delhi Police's assertion that Jantar Mantar is the only designated protest site, Das said the group was demanding a larger space to accommodate the growing number of demonstrators.
He also said climate activist Sonam Wangchuk had conveyed his best wishes to the young protesters and reiterated that the march would remain peaceful and non-violent.
