The Union Cabinet has approved the restructuring and extension of the Prime Minister Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, extending
its lending period from December 31, 2024, to March 31, 2030. With a total outlay of Rs. 7,332 crore, the scheme aims to benefit around 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries, according to an official release from the Cabinet The implementation of the scheme is a joint responsibility of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Financial Services (DFS). While MoHUA oversees overall coordination, DFS facilitates access to loans and credit cards through banks, financial institutions, and their field-level representatives. The PM SVANidhi Scheme is a special micro-credit scheme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to offer affordable loans to street vendors. Key Highlights Of The PM SVANidhi Scheme: Loan amounts increased: First tranche raised from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 15,000 Second tranche increased from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 Third tranche remains Rs. 50,000 Introduction of UPI-linked RuPay Credit Card for vendors repaying their second loan, enabling quick access to credit. Digital adoption incentives: Cashback of up to Rs. 1,600 for digital transactions. Scheme expansion to cover census towns and peri-urban areas. Capacity-building: Training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital skills, and food safety hygiene (in collaboration with FSSAI). Enhanced welfare linkage via ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi’ through monthly Lok Kalyan Melas connecting vendors and families to government welfare schemes. Impact Of PM SVANidhi Scheme So Far: Over 96 lakh loans disbursed worth Rs. 13,797 crore to 68 lakh street vendors (as of July 30, 2025). Nearly 47 lakh digitally active vendors have conducted 557 crore digital transactions valued at Rs. 6.09 lakh crore, earning cashback of Rs. 241 crore. Over 46 lakh beneficiaries profiled under ‘SVANidhi se Samriddhi,’ leading to 1.38 crore sanctions under other government schemes.
