Ex-Pak PM Imran’s son raises alarm over his health

Islamabad: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sons expressed concern over his deteriorating health in Islamabad’s Adiala jail. Khan’s sons, Sulaiman

and Kasim Khan, said during an online press conference on Tuesday (August 25) that Pakistani authorities had disregarded a Supreme Court order requiring his examination at a private hospital and regular meetings with family members, reported The Financial Times. Kasim even stated that his father might not even survive. “At this point it’s looking more likely than not that he won’t be able to survive his stay in prison,” Kasim said as quoted by the edai house. Meanwhile, Khan’s international lawyer Jared Genser reportedly termed the jail conditions as “slow-motion murder." Notably, Khan’s sons live abroad. According to them, the latest time they saw their father was in November 2022. They further claimed that they were not granted visas to travel to Pakistan and did not even receive permission to talk to KHan since March.

Imran Khan Shifted to Hospital For a Few Hours:

Last week, Khan shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a few hours, and later he was shifted back to the jail. The 73-year-old former PM was taken to the hospital on the night of August 20 for a medical evaluation following a Supreme Court order directing authorities to provide him specialised medical care amid concerns about his health.

According to Pakistani media reports, Khan was sent back to prison after doctors reportedly found it safe for him to remain in custody.

Khan has been in prison since August 2023. He and his supporters claim that cases against him are politically motivated. The Pakistan government, however, denies the allegation.

His lawyers have repeatedly raised concerns about his health in prison, including what they say is significant loss of vision in his right eye.

In an order issued on Tuesday, Pakistan's Supreme Court directed authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. The court also ordered that he be examined by a medical panel that includes his personal physician.

The order came amid a prolonged dispute over where Khan should receive medical treatment.
