New Delhi: Two days after the powerful blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed 12, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected around 40 samples
from the explosion site, including two different types of explosives and two cartridges, one of which was live ammunition. According to the preliminary investigation, one of the samples recovered from the blast site was ammonium nitrate - the same substance seized from an arrested doctor in Faridabad. On Monday, around 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered in Faridabad as agencies acted on leads linked to JeM’s multi-state terror module. The explosives were seized from Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed, both affiliated with Al Farah University. Both were arrested.

Second Sample More Powerful Than Ammonium Nitrate While one explosive was ammonium nitrate, officials said the second explosive was believed to be more powerful, however, its exact composition will be confirmed after detailed forensic examination. The FSL team found the cartridges while inspecting the spot. A high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow moving vehicle near Red Fort traffic signal on Monday, claiming 12 lives.
Further investigation is underway to determine the nature of the explosives and how they were used in the blast, the officials added.
The FSL has constituted a special team to analyse the samples. The team has been directed to expedite the examination and submit the report without delay, officials said. The lab has been functional round the clock since the blast.
