Soon after the Rajasthan BJP chief's remarks went viral, the Congress was quick to react. Hitting out at the BJP leader for his controversial statement, the Congress called it "BJP's love for Pakistan".
"Yes, BJP will side with the same Pakistan that orchestrated the murder of Indian citizens. Treason runs through every vein of BJP members," the grand old party said in its X post.
Congress leader Shama Mohamed also hit out at the saffron party and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about their stance.
“The BJP’s love for the terrorist nation Pakistan, which kills our soldiers and our people, has come on display once again,” Mohamed said.
Meanwhile, Rathore, in an interview with IANS, appeared to be in damage-control mode. He asserted that the party’s opposition to Pakistan remained strong, accusing the neighbouring country of sponsoring terrorism, training terrorists and smuggling narcotics into India.
"Our stand is absolutely clear. Pakistan has not treated us well; the Pulwama incident also took place. They send terrorists, provide training to terrorists, and engage in sending narcotics to India in both direct and indirect ways. Therefore, our opposition to Pakistan is very strong..." he stated.
