Mumbai Metro-3 Aqua Line: The ambitious Worli–Cuffe Parade stretch of the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line missed the August 15 deadline due to ongoing work at Kalbadevi
– one of the most complex parts of the project. However, the third and final stretch of the Aqua Line will be ready by the end of August, according to media reports. This 9.1 km underground section will complete the full north-south metro route, making travel faster between Aarey, Worli, and South Mumbai’s business hubs. Kalbadevi has narrow lanes, old heritage buildings, and busy roads, making it hard to move construction material and carry out tunnelling work. Engineers have struggled with limited space, which has slowed progress. Despite this, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) says trial runs will finish in time for an end-of-August launch, reported TimesProperty.
Commuters to Wait a Bit Longer
The first two parts of the Aqua Line – from Aarey to Worli – are already running. Once the final Worli–Cuffe Parade stretch opens, the full route will be complete. Officials say the wait will not be long, as they aim to open the final section by the end of August.
New Transport Projects Launched
Just before Independence Day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched several key infrastructure projects:
A 2.75 km flyover between Mumbai University and Vile Parle, expected to ease traffic in Santacruz.
The Kalanagar–Dharavi bridge to improve east-west travel.
A new Metro motormen training centre in Mandale, so drivers no longer need to train outside the city.
These developments are part of a wider effort to reduce traffic jams and improve Mumbai’s public transport, added the media report.
New Homes for Worli Residents
The Chief Minister also handed over house keys to 556 families from the redeveloped BDD chawls in Worli. This marks the first phase of the housing project. He also opened new staff housing for MMRDA workers in Malvani.
