The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered all schools to remain closed for today (August 19) too. BMC ordered all government and private
schools, colleges, and other educational institutions to remain shut and not conduct physical/ offline classes for all levels. This order was issued after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued another Red Alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall for Mumbai City and Suburbs today i.e. Tuesday, August 19, 2025. Mumbai Schools Closed Today Live Updates "The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning (extremely heavy rainfall), for Mumbai City and Suburbs tomorrow i.e. Tuesday, 19th August 2025," BMC tweeted on 'X' (earlier known as Twitter). "In view of the same, District Disaster Management Authority (BMC), hereby declares a holiday for all Government, Private and Municipal schools and colleges in Mumbai (City and Suburbs)." This directive from BMC comes in line with its previous order that was passed for the second half of Monday. However, BMC had faced flak for tweeting about school closures after 11 am for Monday. Avoiding this, BMC informed students and parents well in advance for August 19. Mumbai Rains News LIVE Updates Meanwhile, Mumbai University has postponed the exams that were scheduled on August 19 (Tuesday) due to heavy rain alert in the city. Due to this, the exams have been rescheduled to August 23. "The rescheduled date for these exams is now August 23, 2025, and they will be held at the originally planned times," said the statement. Mumbai has been witnessing a heavy spell of monsoon showers, with intense rain lashing Andheri, Ghatkopar, Navi Mumbai and parts of South Mumbai. Mumbai Police has added that teams are on high alert to assist residents. In case of emergencies, people can dial 100, 112, or 103 for immediate help.
