What is the story about?
The Minto Bridge underpass, which often gets waterlogged during monsoon, remained free of flooding on Saturday despite heavy rain in Delhi that disrupted
air travel. The underpass, at the junction of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg and Swami Vivekananda Marg, connects Connaught Place with New Delhi station, Old Delhi, and Darya Ganj. For decades, it has been one of the first spots to flood during a downpour and remains on the Public Works Department’s (PWD) high-priority watchlist. But this year, it hasn’t reported a single instance of waterlogging.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Delhi-NCR
A video shared by ANI showed vehicles passing smoothly through the Minto Bridge underpass, unlike the usual scenes of stranded buses and submerged cars during previous monsoons.
While Minto Bridge remained dry, other parts of Delhi witnessed severe waterlogging after early morning showers. Mathura Road and the area outside Bharat Mandapam’s gate no 7 reported water accumulation. Heavy rain was recorded in Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar.
The downpour also affected air travel. Data from Flightradar showed around 90 flight delays and four cancellations from Delhi airport.
IMD Forecasts More Showers
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms with rain for the rest of the day, with temperatures expected to hover between 25°C and 33°C.
More spells of rain are likely in the evening.
