Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul
Gandhi for congratulating him on his party’s strong performance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Taking to social media, Vijay acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s message and emphasised that governance and public welfare would remain his priority. He also signalled a willingness to work with the Centre for the state’s development. "Thank you, Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi for your greetings. The well-being of our people remains our only goal. Transcending politics, we shall focus on the State's progress and the welfare of people of Tamil Nadu. We look forward to the Union Government's support in this endeavour," Vijay said in a post on X, replying to the prime minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier congratulated Vijay and his party for their “impressive performance,” while reiterating the Union government’s commitment to Tamil Nadu’s progress and welfare. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reached out to Vijay, congratulating him on TVK’s results and describing the mandate as reflective of a rising youth voice in Indian politics. Responding to Rahul Gandhi's wish, Vijay said, "My sincere thanks to the Honorable Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the call and kind wishes! We shall remain committed to excellence in public service, and preserving the cultural ethos of our state which requires collective cooperation. Beyond politics, we shall prioritize for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu." Vijay’s TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the state in its electoral debut, marking a major disruption to Tamil Nadu’s long-standing political landscape dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.
