The Supreme Court of India on August 5 directed revaluation of answer script of a National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, (NEET UG 2025) aspirant who alleged
erroneous page sequencing in his question paper. The order was passed by a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and K V Viswanathan. The aspirant alleged that this page sequencing error potentially affected his performance. He believes that the sequence caused confusion and hindered his ability to answer questions properly. The bench said that with this order, the petitioner will have the satisfaction of having his papers manually checked. The petitioner claimed that while the question paper should have been sequenced from question 1 to 180, it was from question 1 to 27, then 54 to 81, and then 28 to 53, and then 118 to 151, 82 to 117, and then 152 to 180. The checking authorities have been told to re-evaluate the script without relying solely on the optical mark recognition (OMR) scanning system. The court has directed that result of this manual evaluation should be placed on record. The Apex Court’s decision to allow a manual evaluation is being seen as a move to ensure fairness and restore candidate confidence in the assessment process.
