Yashaswinee Raje Singh, daughter of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vikram Singh, has claimed Delhi Police detained her amid the ongoing protest
against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in the national capital. Taking to X, Singh said police picked her up near Bangla Sahib for sitting in a park and are holding her at Keshav Puram police station. “Detained near Bangla Sahib for sitting in a park. currently being held in Keshav Puram police station,” she wrote. Singh is the daughter of Vikram Singh, who represented the Fatehpur Sadar constituency in Uttar Pradesh as a BJP MLA. She came into the spotlight during the student protests in June and July demanding the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leaks. Singh had actively supported the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) campaign during the agitation.
The development comes as security has been tightened across Delhi during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration, led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, seeks the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
More than 40,000 Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) personnel have reportedly been deployed across the capital, with barricades and spike strips installed at several locations.
CJP founder and convener Abhijeet Dipke, along with co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, were also reportedly detained inside an aircraft after arriving at Delhi airport on Saturday.
Meanwhile, several independent journalists, reporters from prominent media organisations and YouTubers have alleged that they were detained by Delhi Police while travelling to cover the demonstration.
Jantar Mantar, the designated protest site, has been sealed off, with media personnel also reportedly facing restrictions on access. Roads leading to the area have been barricaded and manned by security forces.
Loudspeakers at three key entry and exit points have been broadcasting warnings in Hindi and English against gatherings, processions, road blockades and other prohibited activities under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
