Amid heavy rainfall across Pune and Mumbai, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert for Pune at around 4 am. Following the thunderstorms,
as many as 14 flights were diverted at the Pune International Airport till Monday morning. Later, three of these flights returned to Pune, Airport Director Santosh Dhoke said in a press statement. He added that the operations returned to normal after the intensity of the rain reduced. “The Indian Air Force (IAF) has extended their full support by permitting flight movements during the military block time (as per the NOTAM), ensuring smooth operations,” he said, according to the statement. Comparatively, the situation has been recorded as normal than in the morning. Dhake further said that additional seating, drinking water, tea, coffee, and food arrangements were made to ensure passenger comfort during this period. Passengers left stranded
A woman took to X on Monday, complained that her flight got cancelled just two hours before departure, as she was scheduled to reach Nagpur for an exam. Tagging Indigo flights, she added that no assistance has been provided by the customer care.
To this, IndiGo replied, saying, "Hi, due to adverse weather conditions at Pune Airport, your flight has unfortunately been cancelled. As checked, you have opted for an alternate flight. If you need any further assistance, we are just a DM away."

Another woman, who had an exam scheduled at 8:45 am, was not able to reach the location due to the heavy rains. She complained, "Had college viva at 8.45 am today. The flight was supposed to land at 6.30 am. But fuck all Pune is so fuck all, and cuz of bad weather conditions, we’ve been diverted to Hyderabad Airport at 8.45 am. And we’ve been sitting in the aircraft for 40 minutes after landing? Rip."
Mumbai rains
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the IMD issued a yellow alert, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places.
According to commuters, heavy rain on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway also created challenges for commuters. Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a helpline number for residents.
