What is the story about?
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in Delhi on Wednesday questioning whether the unfurling of the tricolour was a crime in India.
His remarks came after CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were arrested and sent to Tihar jail for trespassing the Jantar Mantar premises and unfurling the national flag. "Is unfurling the Tricolour in this country a crime? Ashutosh and Saurav have been sent to jail for five days. Why? Because they went to Jantar Mantar and unfurled the Tricolour. The last time this happened was when the British ruled us. During British rule, freedom fighters who unfurled the Tricolour in public places were arrested and jailed. Narendra Modi is doing something similar," Dipke said.
CJP's Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka Sent To Tihar Jail
A Delhi court on Wednesday remanded Cockroach Janta Party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das to five days of judicial custody in connection with the trespassing of Jantar Mantar. During the hearing, Delhi Police argued that the accused had disturbed public peace and violated the conditions stipulated in their bonds.
According to the police, the accused had formally called on people to participate in the protest. Both had given an undertaking that they would not engage in any such activity for one year. Citing these grounds, Delhi Police sought action against them.
Following the hearing, Delhi's Special Executive Magistrate Court ordered that the accused be sent to five days of judicial custody. They will be lodged at Tihar Jail.
The third accused, Ajinkya Shinde, was made to furnish a Rs 5,000 bail bond, undertaking not to disturb public peace for one year.
