Amid the drop in temperature in the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog and a cold wave across Delhi, reducing
visibility on Saturday (December 20). The met department has issued an orange alert for the city, with temperatures likely to drop to 8 degrees Celsius. Delhiites will experience the chills in the morning and at night, as an extreme coldwave will grip the city. Moreover, dense fog will blanket the national capital. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature is likely to stay around 22 degrees Celsius, and the minimum can drop to 8 degrees Celsius. The met department forecasted "dense to very dense fog" in Delhi on Saturday.
Coldest December Day Recorded on Thursday
The city experienced its coldest December day of the season on Thursday, with the maximum temperature settling at 20.1 degrees Celsius, around 2.1 degrees below normal, making daytime conditions unusually chilly for mid-December.
IMD data shows Thursday’s daytime temperature was the lowest recorded this December, sharply lower than earlier days this season. The second-lowest maximum temperature stood at 23.7°C on December 4, while 24.3°C, recorded in November, marked the third-lowest so far.

Meanwhile, air quality in the national capital remained in the 'very poor' category, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 358, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
