As vote counting is about to conclude, the results are showing a favourable trend for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena alliance. The BJP is leading
in 1212 wards, while Shiv Sena is ahead in 305 wards, according to the early trends recorded at 3:20 pm. However, the final results are expected to be concluded by the evening. The elections to 2,869 seats across 893 wards in Maharashtra were held on Thursday (January 15), and counting of votes is currently underway, with the BJP showing positive trends, setting the victory mark. The Congress gained a meagre seven wards, while the MNS was ahead in a modest five. The counting is taking place at 23 designated centres spread across Mumbai amid tight security arrangements and high police deployment. The BJP-led Mahayuti is engaged in a high-stakes contest with the reunited Thackeray cousins, Raj Thackeray of the MNS and Uddhav Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT)-for control of Mumbai’s cash-rich BMC, which commands an annual budget exceeding ₹74,000 crore.
Several other parties, including the NCP, NCP (SP), Congress and the Samajwadi Party, are also vying for influence in the civic body.

What Exit Polls Predicted
The exit polls predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) combine. Axis My India predicted the alliance would win 131–151 seats out of 227, while the Thackeray cousins' Sena-UBT-MNS combine was projected to win 58–68 seats.
Saam TV had projected a slightly narrower gap, with BJP-Sena taking 119 seats against 77 for the Thackerays. Congress and NCP remained marginal players in the contest.
