Amritsar: Punjab Police have foiled an alleged petrol bomb attack plot targeting a protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, claiming it was orchestrated by a Pakistan-based
terror module. Eight accused have been arrested in connection with the case. According to investigators, the group travelled to Jantar Mantar during the protest and allegedly received local logistical support, including petrol bombs, to carry out the attack. Police said the accused had been trained by Pakistan-based handlers to target police personnel, security agencies and other uniformed officials.
The alleged attack could not be executed, and the suspects were arrested after returning to Punjab in an intelligence-led operation. Police said they have also traced financial transactions made through digital payment platforms, including Paytm, and are probing the role of Pakistan-based handlers and their local associates.
ISI-Backed Modules Busted, Weapons Seized
The Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted two ISI-backed cross-border terror modules, arresting nine accused, including four juveniles. Police recovered three illegal pistols, four petrol bottle bombs, and nine live cartridges during the operation.Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were allegedly acting on the directions of foreign-based ISI handlers, who were recruiting local youths to carry out terror-related activities, conduct surveillance of security installations, procure illegal weapons and disrupt public peace. Investigators also uncovered that surveillance cameras had allegedly been installed near railway tracks, with the footage being shared with handlers based abroad.
Police have registered FIRs at Mohkampura, Airport and C-Division police stations in Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network, establish its forward and backward linkages, trace the financial trail and determine any involvement in other terror-related activities.
