Imagine travelling a good ‘25 kms’ in a city like Bengaluru- solely for an interview with an organisation’s CEO! Sounds important, right? Now, imagine
finding out that the said ‘important interview’ was not as important to the company– the entire time. Narrating a horrible experience, a Bengaluru man shared about a face-to-face interview that he had scheduled– for the post of the ‘Head of Web Development at a medium-sized digital marketing firm’. As per the man's Reddit post on the same, the meeting was scheduled for 4:30 PM- directly with the firm’s CEO. After driving for 25 km, when the man finally reached the office, he was asked to wait for 5 minutes. However, those ‘5 minutes’ eventually turned into ‘almost an hour’- as he was still waiting for the meeting- while the clock struck 5:20 PM! Realising the reality, the man then allegedly made an excuse about another interview and left. Taking to social media, he then ranted about how casual the organisation was about ‘wasting’ someone else’s time’. The post went viral as soon as it was shared online. Most found the incident upsetting, while the rest appreciated the move he took. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post.

“Scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. Interview, Walked Out at 5:20 Without Being Interviewed,” the post read.
“Today, I went to attend an F2F interview scheduled at 4:30pm for the role of Head of Web Development at a medium-sized digital marketing firm. The HR confirmed that this was the only round, directly with the CEO, and that I was the only candidate they had scheduled for the day. She also mentioned that they conduct interviews only on Fridays. In the invite, she had also asked me to bring two hard copies of my resume and my laptop. The last time I printed my resume was back in 2015 IIRC,” the post further read.
“So, I drove all the way from my home to Marathahalli, about 25 km away, through Bangalore traffic, and reached their office at 4:25pm. sharp. The HR asked me to wait and ask whether I had brought my resume. I told her I hadn’t, so they printed it themselves. I waited until 5pm, and in the meantime, I met another candidate who had been waiting for his interview with the CEO since 2:30pm. He said there were a few more candidates also waiting like him,” the post continued.
“I went back to the HR and asked if it would take much longer. She told me to wait another five minutes since the “tech guy” was busy. I was surprised and asked her again, ‘Isn’t the interview supposed to be directly with the CEO?’ That’s when she said the first round would be with the tech guy, followed by the CEO. This had never been mentioned earlier. Finally, at 5:20 pm, I made an excuse that I had another interview, requested to reschedule, and walked out. I felt it wasn’t even worth interviewing at a company that doesn’t value others’ time, let alone working for them,” the Redditor continued.
“I can’t believe companies are still stuck in 2015 in this era of remote and hybrid work. It seems like they’ve never heard of online interviews. Honestly, it felt like one of those ‘meetings that should have just been an email.’ This could have easily been a 30-minute online interview.
Such a waste of time, money, and effort,” the post concluded.

Social media’s reaction:
“You did the right thing, it is professional to be right on time both for you and the company. The fact that they didn’t bother to apologise for the delay and were only responding to you means they think that they can behave any which way with employees as they are doing them a favour by giving them employment,” a user said.

“Is it really a ‘medium sized’ corp? When a web development post is ‘interviewed’ by the CEO? Am I missing something?” added another.
