The Election Commission of India will visit Patna on October 4 and 5 to review preparations for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. The term of the 243-member
Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22, and polls in the state are likely to be held in November. It is standard practice for the Commission to assess readiness in states before announcing the election schedule. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will lead the team. Ahead of the visit, the Commission is expected to hold a briefing in New Delhi on October 3 for general, police and expenditure observers appointed for the Bihar polls. The Election Commission typically meets representatives of political parties, senior police and administrative officers, and state election officials during such reviews. Meanwhile, the Special Intensive Revision of the state’s voter list - the first in more than two decades - is nearing completion. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 30. The revision has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties, which allege it could disenfranchise millions of genuine voters. The Commission, however, has assured that no eligible citizen will be excluded and no ineligible name will be added.
Up to 400 CAPF Companies to Be Deployed for Bihar Election 2025
Between 350 and 400 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state police units are likely to be deployed to ensure security during the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Each CAPF company has an operational strength of 70–80 personnel, PTI reported on Friday, citing officials.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed earmarked CAPF units to begin de-induction from their current postings and move toward Bihar. Most companies will be drawn from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), while additional personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and India Reserve Battalions will also be mobilised.
These central forces will work alongside Bihar Police to maintain order.
In the last Bihar assembly polls held in 2020, about 300 CAPF companies were deployed across the state.
