New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Thursday (August 6) rejected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal's claims that the central
government is planning to introduce ethanol blending in diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). Naidu clarified that there is no proposal to blend ethanol with ATF and that spreading misinformation on aviation safety creates needless anxiety among air travellers. Naidu called Kejriwal's claims "completely false and irresponsible". "The claim that the Government plans to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) is completely false and irresponsible. There is no such proposal," the union minister said in a post on X. Naidu clarified that ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are two entirely different fuels and should not be conflated. "Ethanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) are entirely different and should not be conflated. SAF is an internationally certified aviation fuel recognised by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and adopted globally. It undergoes rigorous testing and meets stringent global safety standards," he added. The union minister also cautioned against spreading unverified claims about aviation fuel, saying such misinformation could create unnecessary anxiety among air travellers. "Spreading misinformation on aviation safety only creates needless anxiety among air travellers. Passenger safety remains the Government's highest priority," he stated.
Here's What Kejriwal Claimed?
Urging people to avoid purchasing new petrol and diesel vehicles for the time being, Kejriwal alleged that the government would soon blend ethanol in diesel. In another post, the former Delhi Chief Minister, citing sources, claimed that the Modi government was planning to blend ethanol in ATF as well.
"It seems they are going to adulterate petrol with more than 50 per cent. They are just waiting for the atmosphere to calm down. First, they forced E20 petrol into your E0 and E10 vehicles and wrecked them. Today, if you buy a new E20 vehicle, the government will force E50 petrol into it after a few days and damage it," Kejriwal said in a post on X.
"Sources indicate that the Modi government plans to mix ethanol in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). Experts say that this could seriously compromise the safety of flights," Kejriwal further added.
