A video showing a hostel warden assaulting a student inside a hostel in Telangana has gone viral, triggering outrage and demands for action from student organisations
and social groups. The footage shows Bhavani, the warden of Girls Gurukul School in Bhupalpally confronting the student after calling her to her room for allegedly going missing after an examination. “You put my job at risk. Do you know what tensions I went through when I found you missing?” the warden is heard saying, before turning violent and hitting the student with her hands and a stick, as per a report by NDTV. The student can be seen pleading for forgiveness as the warden continues to assault her, while screaming at her. The incident was reportedly recorded by another student present at the hostel. Students expressed anguish, stating that the warden beats them daily. However, the exact reason behind the assault is still unclear, and the incident is said to have taken place last month. Following the video’s circulation on social media, Warden Bhavani has been suspended, and an inquiry has been ordered. The incident has raised serious concerns over student safety in hostels, particularly for those from marginalised communities. Several student organisations have condemned the assault and staged a protest in front of the Government Degree College demanding strict action against those responsible, while urging the government to ensure better safeguards for students.
