In a shocking incident, a construction worker allegedly killed his friend over a debt of Rs 23 in the Ananthasagar area of Medak district, Telangana, on January
15. According to police, the two men were sharing drinks under a tree in a secluded spot in the city’s suburbs when an argument escalated into a fatal attack. The accused, Mahesh Kumar, was arrested on January 17 for the murder of Mohammed Siraj, according to The Times of India. Both men, who worked together as construction workers in Hyderabad, were celebrating the Sankranti holiday over drinks. At some point, Kumar, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, demanded that Siraj return Rs 23 that he had borrowed long ago. As the argument intensified, Kumar allegedly lost his temper and slammed Siraj’s head into a tree. Narender Goud, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Toopran), said Kumar then struck Siraj several times on the head with a large rock, causing him to collapse. Realising that Siraj had died, Kumar fled the scene. Following a quick investigation, police tracked Kumar to the outskirts of Masaipet. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and was subsequently taken into custody. Police have seized the blood-soaked shirt Kumar was wearing at the time of the murder, as well as the rock used in the attack. Kumar has been charged under the relevant sections of law and placed in judicial custody. In a similar shocking incident, Gurugram Police arrested Santosh Tiwari, a resident of Raebareli (UP), for allegedly murdering his friend, delivery boy Faisal Idrisi, over a financial dispute of Rs 15,000 linked to a promised loan of Rs 1 lakh. Tiwari allegedly strangled Idrisi and slashed his neck with a blade on December 24, then fled with the victim’s phone and motorcycle. The victim’s body was discovered on January 8, and Tiwari was arrested on January 16, 2026, PTI reported. The body was found behind a petrol pump in Sector 37, Gurugram, and Tiwari was produced in a city court. Investigations revealed that after the altercation, he tied the victim, committed the murder, and tried to cover up the crime by fleeing with Faisal’s belongings, further investigations are underway to recover victim's belongings.
