What is the story about?
The Indian Space Research Organisation has released a recruitment notification for Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ posts across its centres and the Physical Research Laboratory
(PRL). The drive offers 176 vacancies in core engineering disciplines, with applications to be submitted online by September 16, 2026, up to 11:55 pm. These positions fall under Group ‘A’ and come with Level 10 pay in the Pay Matrix. The recruitment is aimed at bringing in young engineering graduates to contribute to India’s space and research programmes. Out of the total vacancies, the highest number of posts are in Electronics, followed by Mechanical and Computer Science streams.
Vacancy Break-up and Eligibility Criteria
The distribution of vacancies is as follows:
- Electronics: 100 posts (99 in ISRO centres, 1 in PRL)
- Mechanical: 53 posts (52 in ISRO centres, 1 in PRL)
- Computer Science: 23 posts (21 in ISRO centres, 1 in PRL)
The candidates must hold a BE, BTech or an equivalent degree in the relevant discipline. For Electronics roles, a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering is required, while Mechanical and Computer Science applicants must have qualifications in their respective fields.
A minimum of 65% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale is mandatory. The upper age limit is 28 years as on September 16, 2026, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories, ex-servicemen, central government employees and PwBD candidates as per rules.
Application Process and Fee Details
Applications will be accepted only through the official ISRO recruitment portal. The candidates need to fill in their personal and educational details, upload documents, and ensure they meet all eligibility conditions before submission.

- Processing fee: Rs 750 (initially payable, subject to refund conditions as per notification)
Offline or alternative modes of application will not be considered.
Selection Process: Written Test and Interview
The selection process will be conducted in two stages: a written test followed by a personal interview.
The written test will be a computer-based exam conducted in 37 cities across India and will carry a total of 100 marks. It will be divided into two parts:
- Part A: 80 discipline-specific objective questions to be attempted in 90 minutes, with negative marking of one-third mark for each wrong answer
- Part B: 15 aptitude-based questions carrying 20 marks, to be completed in 30 minutes, with no negative marking
The candidates will be shortlisted for an interview round in a 1:5 ratio based on their performance in the written test.
The interview will carry 100 marks and will evaluate technical knowledge, communication skills, general awareness and academic background. To qualify, unreserved candidates must secure at least 50% marks in the interview and 60% overall. Final selection will be based on equal weightage given to the written test and interview.
