Delhi Police on Friday detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activist Abhijeet Dipke as he left the residence of NCP-SCP spokesperson Anish Gawande, ahead
of the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ rally at Central Park in Connaught Place. A police official informed Dipke that he was being placed under preventive detention, citing the imposition of Section 163 in Connaught Place. Following his detention, the Cockroach Janta Party lashed out at the Delhi Police, alleging that Dipke had been taken to an undisclosed location and was not being allowed to speak to lawyers. In a post on X, the party questioned the police action, asking why the government was treating young people “like terrorists” and alleging that Dipke had been detained merely for carrying the national flag. “The Delhi Police has taken Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location. We have lost contact with him. He is not being allowed to talk to lawyers. Why does this government treat youth like terrorists? We are equal citizens of India and we deserve all the protections and rights of the Constitution! @DelhiPolice where have you taken Abhijeet? You owe an answer to us. Abhijeet was just walking out of his home with a Tiranga in his hand! HOW CAN WALKING WITH A TIRANGA BE A CRIME?” the party said. Police sources said Dipke was taken to Jafarpur Kalan police station after being detained.
Neha Bora also detained
AISA chief Neha Bora has also been placed under detention. In a message, AISA claimed that the student activist had been taken to Manglapuri.
"Neha is detained alone at Anti-Narcotic Task Force, Manglapuri! It is 8 PM and there is no communication with Neha! Release Neha now! Police is not allowing lawyers to meet Neha," it said.
Police also began detaining protesters who had reached Connaught Place. "Those attempting to disrupt law and order are being detained," a police officer said, adding that around 150 people have been detained so far.
Hundreds of protesters, including members of the CJP and student organisations, gathered at Connaught Place and Mandi House for a series of flash protests, waving the national flag amid heavy police deployment. Several traffic police personnel were also deployed to regulate movement along the inner and outer circles of Connaught Place.
Police allowed marches by different groups raising various slogans. Some protesters arrived carrying the Tricolour.
