As the temperatures in Punjab are dipping, the state government has announced extension of winter break for all government, aided, recognized, and private
schools. The Punjab government has announced that all schools will stay shut till January 7, 2026 (Saturday). This decision has been taken keeping in mind the continuously increasing cold and fog in the state. The announcement was made by the state's education minister on microblogging platform, 'X' (Twitter). "In accordance with the directives of the Honorable Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann Ji, keeping in view the continuously increasing cold and fog in the state, and with due consideration to the health and safety of children and staff, holidays are being declared in all government, aided, recognized, and private schools of the state until January 7," said Harjot Singh Bains, Punjab's Education Minister. "Now, all schools in the state will reopen on January 8 as per regular days." The Punjab government had announced winter holidays from December 21 to December 31, 2025. The announcement made today (December 31) is an extension to the existing winter break. Also Read | Schools Closed Live Updates Bains stated that the state government wants to ensure the safety of good health of students, due to which the government has decided to extend then school holidays for all government, aided, recognized, and private schools in Punjab. Meanwhile, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) released the date sheet for the practical and written examinations of Classes 8, 10, and 12 for the February–March 2026 session. The datesheet was released on December 30. The written examinations for class 8 will be conducted from February 17 to February 27, 2026, from 11 am to 2:15 pm. Similarly, class 10 exams will be held from March 6 to April 1, 2026, from 11 am to 2:15 pm, and the written examinations will take place from February 17 to April 4, 2026, between 11 am and 2:15 pm.
