Chennai Airport Flight Diversion Today: At least three incoming flights, including an international service, were diverted to nearby airports due to fog-triggered
low visibility, on Sunday (February 7), officials reported. The city airport experienced moderate to dense fog early in the morning, significantly reducing visibility and disrupting normal flight operations. This sudden weather change affected both arrivals and departures, with several incoming flights forced to land at alternate airports to ensure passenger safety. Additionally, a few departing flights faced minor delays as air traffic controllers worked carefully to manage the challenging conditions. According to the latest weather update, the fog is expected to persist through the morning hours, with visibility gradually improving by midday under partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures around 30°C. Travelers are advised to check with airlines for the latest flight information as conditions continue to evolve. Also Read: Chennai on Bullet Train Map: Which Cities Will Be Connected? "Moderate to dense fog was reported over Chennai Meenambakkam Airport during the early morning hours today. Visibility was around 1500 metres at 05:30 IST, which reduced to 350 metres by 06:30 IST and further dropped to 150 metres around 07:30 IST due to fog." "The fog formation was attributed to a combination of high humidity, light to calm winds, and lower night-time temperatures," an official told news agency PTI. The visibility was expected to improve between 8.30-9 am, he added. Two incoming flights-- from Kualalumpur and Hyderabad, were diverted to Tiruchirappalli, while a city-bound private service returned to Bengaluru.
