New Delhi: The Delhi Police Mahasangh, the association of retired non-gazetted and gazetted Delhi Police officers, has written to the Commissioner of Police seeking
permission to hold a peaceful one-day dharna at Jantar Mantar on July 31, 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm. The association cited the injuries sustained by a large number of Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel while performing their duties during incidents that occurred from July 20 onwards, particularly in and around Jantar Mantar, as the reason for the proposed protest. The development adds a new dimension to the ongoing standoff around the Jantar Mantar protest site, with retired police personnel now seeking to use the same ground that has been at the centre of the student agitation to express solidarity with their injured colleagues in active service. Further details on whether permission will be granted are awaited.
