Chennai Faces Power Outages Today

Chennai Power Cut: Residents in parts of Pallavaram will face a scheduled power outage on Monday, 18 August 2025, as the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution

Corporation (TANGEDCO) carries out essential maintenance and upgrade works at the Pallavaram 110 KV substation.

According to TANGEDCO officials, electricity supply will be suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate technical checks, equipment servicing and minor repair works aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution network. The utility said the move, though inconvenient, is part of routine substation maintenance and safety enhancement measures designed to ensure reliable power supply in the coming months.

The outage will affect Old Pallavaram, Zamin Pallavaram, Thrisulam, Rajaji Nagar, Malliga Nagar, Malaganthapuram, Bharathi Nagar, Pachayappan Colony, Cantonment Pallavaram, and several stretches along GST Road.

TANGEDCO has advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to make prior arrangements, including charging essential devices, storing sufficient water, and planning industrial or commercial activities accordingly. Hospitals and other critical service providers in the zone have also been alerted to ensure uninterrupted backup power during the shutdown.

Authorities further cautioned the public against using lifts close to the shutdown period to avoid being stranded in case of sudden supply cuts.
Officials added that supply could be restored earlier than the scheduled 5:00 p.m. deadline if the maintenance works are completed ahead of time. The planned outage is part of TANGEDCO’s wider maintenance initiative across Chennai, where substations are being periodically serviced to enhance stability and meet the city’s growing power demand.
