Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 28) attended the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Day of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour. Notably,
PM Modi is currently on a three-day visit to Seychelles. An Indian Army contingent from the Assam Regiment, the Navy's frontline stealth frigate INS Tarkash and the indigenously built Survey Vessel Large INS Ikshak participated in the celebrations. Besides, an Indian Navy marching contingent and naval band also became part of the Seychelles National Day celebrations. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister held wide-ranging talks with Seychelles President Patrick Hermini.
Meanwhile, at a special ceremony, PM Modi was conferred the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon' award by President Herminie in recognition of his leadership on environmental sustainability, his efforts to champion the interests of developing nations, and his longstanding commitment to advancing the Blue Economy.
PM Modi Highlights Ties Between India And Seychelles Through Chutney And Samosa:
During his visit to Seychelles, PM Modi highlighted deep-rooted ties between the two nations through chutney and samosa. Chutney and samosa flavours are among the unique elements that reflect the shared heritage of India and Seychelles, PM Modi had said on Sunday. highlighting the deep people-to-people ties between the two countries.The PM made these remarks while addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles, during his three-day visit to the archipelagic nation.
Asserting that the "greatest strength" of Seychelles is its people, Modi said that people from all parts of the world arrived in the country over the generations. He said they brought with them different languages, customs, beliefs and traditions. "And together, they built a shared identity that is proudly Seychellois," he added.
Noting the motto of the National Assembly -- Unity in Diversity -- Modi said that the connections between the cultures of India and Seychelles are visible in everyday life when the nation celebrates the "richness of its heritage".
"They can be felt in the flavours of Kari Koko, Samosa, and Chutney. They can be found in the celebrations of Deepavali, Thai Pongal, and the Garba dance during Navratri. This is the Creole spirit that gives us great confidence in the future of our friendship, he said.
Highlighting India and Seychelles' strong diplomatic ties, PM Modi said, "Today, as I stand before you in this historic Golden Jubilee year, our people are celebrating a friendship that stretches back more than two and a half centuries." "Few partnerships are built on foundations as deep. And few partnerships have grown with such warmth, trust, and goodwill. As we look ahead, let us continue to build upon these foundations," he had further stated.
