New Delhi: Commuters in central Delhi are likely to face traffic disruptions today, 30 August, as a major protest has been planned near Indira Bhawan on Deen
Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg. The demonstration, organised by a political party, is expected to draw nearly 10,000–12,000 participants between 2 pm and 4 pm. To manage the large gathering, Delhi Traffic Police announced that a series of restrictions and diversions will remain in place from 11 am to 6 pm in and around the protest site. Officials have also urged the public to avoid travelling on affected stretches and to use public transport wherever possible.
Roads Likely to be Affected
Traffic movement will be restricted or diverted, depending on the situation, on the following routes:
- BSZ Marg (ITO to Delhi Gate)
- IP Marg and under IP Flyover on Vikas Marg
- JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Guru Nanak Chowk, Rajghat)
- Asaf Ali Road
- Minto Road to Kamla Market roundabout
- Ranjeet Singh Flyover to Turkman Gate
- Mirdard Road, Mata Sundri Lane and Kotla Road
In addition, DDU Marg will remain closed for all traffic from ITO Chowk to Minto Road Red Light in both directions. Heavy vehicles and buses will not be permitted on these routes during the period of restriction.
Parking Ban
Parking will not be allowed on DDU Marg, BSZ Marg, JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Rajghat), Ring Road (Rajghat to IP Flyover) and IP Marg. Vehicles parked in violation will be towed and penalised. Authorities have advised motorists to use only authorised parking lots.
Advisory for Commuters
Traffic police have asked citizens to:- Opt for public transport to avoid congestion.
- Avoid parking on roadside stretches to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- Use the Paharganj side when heading to New Delhi Railway Station and avoid Ajmeri Gate between 10 am and 5 pm.
- Stay alert and report any suspicious activity or object to police.
- Allow extra travel time and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed at key intersections.
